We are purchasing a set of 16 rat training chambers from Med Assoc for the Cellular and Neurocomputational Systems Branch; the system will also be shared as needed with other NIDA IRP Branches. It will be used to determine the neural mechanisms in the brain that mediate learning and decision making and how they are affected by drugs of abuse. We want to determine the neural mechanisms in the brain that mediate learning and decision making. These chambers are integral to this effort. We currently use chambers made by Coulbourn systems, however they informed us last year they are ending production and repairs, thus the current boxes are necessary to begin to replace these before they break down and stop functioning.
