The purpose of this acquisition is to procure 5 Cereplex SI microelectrode arrays for intracranial recording and microstimulation experiments. These arrays are used to record single neuron activity and perform electrical stimulation in the human brain. The Zaghloul lab routinely implants these arrays in epilepsy patients, and owns all the specific equipment used to record from these electrodes. This requirement is issued on a sole source basis because Blackrock Microsystems is the only designer and manufacturer of these microelectrode arrays. The CerePlex SI devices consist of two arrays of 8x8 recording channels, including 15 stimulation channels, a titanium can that amplifies and digitizes the neural signal, and two pigtail leads that connect the device to the recording equipment. The device must have investigational labeling, and consistent stimulation channel mapping. The pigtails of the array must be reinforced to maximize the performance of the device throughout the patient’s stay. The arrays must arrive fully sterilized, ready for human implantation.
