PURCHASE DESCRIPTION Statement of Need and Purpose: Two Technical Manufacturing Corp (TMC) STACIS iX Laser Tables are required by the Cell Biology and Biophysics unit (CBBU) at NINDS to replace two tables that were damaged in a recent flood. The STACIS iX LaserTables offters hybrid (Passive and Active) vibration isolation and offers vibration isolation down to 0.6Hz. This level of isolation is necessary for the CBBU to perform single molecule localization and super resolution experiments. Background Information and Objective: The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducting research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and stroke. The NINDS mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease. The NINDS Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit performs measurements of microtubules and microtubule associated proteins and their kinetics and dynamics at the single molecule level. To discern the molecular level events, we need to perform super resolution and localization microscopy.
