The purpose of this requirement is to procure Tristar 3 Multimode Microplate Reader for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), Collins laboratory. The Collins laboratory has developed and mouse model for Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) that faithfully reproduces the cardiovascular phenotype and pathology as well as the premature death characteristics of the HGPS subjects. Key features in common are vascular smooth muscle depletion in the large arteries, vascular extracellular matrix deposition, calcification of the aortic vessel wall, cardiac muscle fibrosis as well as cardiac strain. To support this research NHGRI—Collins Laboratory aim to employ the Berthold Tristar 3 Multimode Reader capable of luminescent, absorbance and fluorescent detection of specific indicators of gene expression and calcium flux in cell lines. This specific instrument will allow us to directly extrapolate previously acquired data from a now-defunct instrument to future experiments. Berthold is the only manufacturer of this instrument.
