BACKGROUND The Laboratory Animal Care and Use (LACU) Section of the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) supports all intramural researchers and animal users for their animal protocol, and laboratory animal activities. To streamline the process of Animal Protocol approval through the Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) process and track all animals individually, the LACU continues to need the LabTracks software. The software is user friendly and allows LACU to maintain the inventory of animals ordered and produced in real time and streamline the process of Animal Study Protocols (ASP) submission and approval. In 2018, LACU purchased this software with three (3) years of maintenance through contract HHSN268201800133A, awarded to Locus Technologies. OBJECTIVE The NIAMS primary objective is to continue using LabTracks as an Animal Colony Inventory and a paper light/paperless ASP management software. This software provides a highly integrative and cost-effective product. The government can monitor efficiency of their rodent breeding colonies, production and acquisition of new animals and will allow the ACUC and Principal Investigators (PI) to manage ASPs in a paperless system. SCOPE The government needs continued support for LabTracks. This includes but is not limited to software maintenance, customer support for software (unlimited user seats and user and technical support via email, telephone, and web as needed), all software upgrades, and the contractors must continue to apply appropriate security and privacy safeguards to protect government property and confidentiality for initial as well as additional option years.
