The National Institute on Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) Laboratory of Cellular Imaging and Macromolecular Biophysics (LCIMB), requires the Tecnai TF 30 Service/Maintenance Contract, as it is the main instrument used for research. The electron microscope is very versatile and has several imaging modalities such aTEM, STEM, EFTEM, EFTEM-EELS, and STEM-EELS, which we use to characterize biological specimens as well as specimens primarily used in nanoparticle research. Research includes determining the structure of cell membranes, cell receptors, surface proteins,2 synaptic areas as well as extracellular matrix. The instrument also provides information about nanostructures and nano-devices that are used in biomedical research. We also have several collaborative projects within and outside the NIH including NIBIB, NINDS, NIDDK, NCI, CC, NIDCD, NIDCR and NHLBI.
