The Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories (OSEL), which is a part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), would like to purchase an ultrasound flow meter for non-invasive measurement of real-time blood and blood analog flow rates in bench-top circulatory test loops with a wide range of tubing diameters and a variety of test liquids (e.g., blood, blood analogs, and saline). The flow meter will help with multiple projects such as hemolysis testing, thrombogenicity testing, and particle image velocimetry (PIV) for the Cardiovascular Program within the Division of Applied Mechanics (DAM). In collaboration with the OSEL, the DAM seeks to order a Multichannel Flow Measurement System for non-invasive measurement of real-time flow rates in bench-top circulatory test loops with several test liquids (e.g., blood, blood analogs, and saline) and various tubing diameters (1/8” to 1” outer diameter). A Multichannel Flow Measurement System measures flow rates of blood circulation loops to study blood clot formation and growth. It also measures flow rates on mock circulatory loops to study hemodynamics of ventricular assist devices or artificial hearts.
