The Clinical and Environmental Microbiology Branch (CEMB) is a large lab branch that provides reference antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), reference identification, genomic characterization, laboratory support for the investigation of outbreaks and other adverse events occurring in healthcare settings, maintains surveillance programs for important pathogens causing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and develops and optimizes methods to detect and decontaminate pathogenic bacteria from healthcare surfaces, wastewater and medical devices.
