Notice of Intent to Sole Source the Procurement of Weekly Delivery of Turkey, Chicken, Guinea Pig, and Horse Red Blood Cells
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole-source contract for weekly delivery of turkey, chicken, guinea pig, and horse red blood cells (RBCs) from Lampire Biological Laboratories. These RBCs are required for hemagglutination inhibition assays used by the Influenza Division to maintain continuity of influenza surveillance data. Lampire is the only manufacturer whose products have been validated for the CDC’s established assay protocols and demonstrated consistent performance necessary for longitudinal surveillance. Use of another manufacturer’s RBCs would require extensive validation to establish equivalency, which has not been performed. This notice is issued solely to determine if any other responsible sources can meet the Government’s requirements.
