Each company that manufactures an instrument capable of generating sequence data has their own proprietary chemistry, reagents, and kits and only those products can be used to operate the instrument. Within a given company that makes different types of instruments, each instrument has specific reagents and plastic consumables that are required to operate the instrument. There are no options to purchase these from other companies or even to use the reagents meant for one instrument in another instrument that is made by the same company.
