The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Remel, Inc. The testing supplies, equipment and service agreement provisions are proprietary and only provided by Remel, Inc., a subsidiary of ThermoFisher. The proprietary Sensititre HiQ device and SWIN computer have the specifications needed to hold, handle robotically, read, and capture data from the proprietary Sensititre test panels we must use for our national surveillance program. Continuity of the surveillance that has been performed in this standardized way since 1996 is very important. Other non-Sensititre antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods and equipment are not compatible with our current methods and procedures and would require extensive validation and equivalency studies, and switching to a different method would undermine our ability to do timely, integrated surveillance (a major goal of our surveillance program), and undermine our ability to achieve our mission in comparing data collected from humans with that collected by FDA and USDA on retail meat and food animals, respectively. This is a proprietary line of products.. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all responses received within five (5) days of the issuance of this notice will be reviewed by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
