The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Childhood Obesity Supplement . The purpose of this order is to procure the services of Childhood Obesity, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers, for production, publication and dissemination of a supplement (stand-alone issue) of the Childhood Obesity on the topic of CORD 3.0 awardees’ packaging and implementation of Pediatric Weight Management Interventions (PWMI). The five Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (CORD) recipients are in year 3 of their awards. This baseline publication had been planned for pre-pandemic, but it was postponed. This stand-alone supplement is important to maintain the interest and momentum in the area of childhood obesity research, and to document interim progress towards goals for the availability of packaged interventions that meet the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) guidelines. We now have a tight timeline to get this published in late July, or early August at latest, to allow them to submit for publication papers waiting in the pipeline that will depend on these baseline papers to be published. Being together in the same supplement will be more impactful for all of them than if each of them published on this topic separately. We especially need a journal that can expedite review of manuscripts to less than 3 weeks to ensure ability to meet this tight timeframe. The audiences that need to be reached do NOT include bariatric surgeons, since these interventions are not surgical. The audience need to include not only physicians, but also community-based professionals such as school administrators since some of these interventions draw participation from schools; community organizations such as parks and recreation administers since some of these interventions are community-based; and other providers such as dieticians and nutritionists since some of the interventions engage individuals in these roles. Ensuring that the journal is indexed by some of the databases that would be relevant to these groups is also important, i.e., CINAHL Database, which provides indexing of nursing and allied health literature, and FSTA database, which covers scientific and technological literature relating to food, beverages and nutrition. Selecting a journal that is widely read among our cohort of CORD researchers makes it more likely to be read by their peers. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations/responses received within fifteen (15) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
