The chief objective is to conduct 2 investigations of fire fighters who died from CVD or another medical issue (e.g., exertional heat stroke) on duty. Investigations will characterize the environmental, organizational, and personal circumstances of the death to generate individual fatality reports for the fire service. The second objective is creation of a prevention-focused educational tool based on NIOSH FFFIPP medical investigations/reports. The tool will use incident details, characteristics of the death, and recommendations to highlight ways to prevent future similar deaths.
