The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Alternative Design Manufacturing & Supply Company for custom 6-cage ventilated ferret racks. Alternative Design Inc. isolator units are the only available ferret isolators that were custom designed in consultation with animal biosafety level 4 (ABSL-4) users to develop an isolator system specific for use in high-containment laboratories. The units are custom, per customer request to fit existing BSL4 animal holding suites. Unit contains a HEPA filtered enclosure rack with the ability to run in either positive or negative mode. Unit includes both a supply and an exhaust air handler. Magnehelic displays current pressure. Fan operates using three different speeds. Plenums and air handlers are removable from the frame. Hinged plates on the bottom of ducts open for cleaning. Each cage is individually ventilated, and inner cages are removable from the rack enclosure. Cages are constructed of 1” x 1” stainless steel mesh on sheet metal frame. Side panels contain an 8” x 7” hinged access panel. Front panel includes a custom J feeder designed to hold ferret food with cover for when feeder is removed, a 32 oz. water bottle w/wire holder, and a squeeze panel. Covered feeder prevents ferrets from digging in the feed. Feeder and water bottle are accessible from the outside of the cage. Vertical squeeze panel can be locked in ½” increments. Handles on front panel are used to remove inner cage from outer cage/frame. Top panel constructed of ½” x ½” stainless steel wire mesh on sheet metal frame. Top panel also includes a hinged access panel and handles. Cage is accessible from both the front and top to increase ease of use. Sides and the front of the outer cages are clear polycarbonate to provide maximum visibility of the animals. Each inner cage includes a Polypropylene flooring panel. Stainless steel litter pans are located in outer cage/frame. Several features are unique to the design to enhance efficiency and safety in high-containment. Cages are constructed of 1”x1” stainless steel mesh on a 304 stainless steel frame. Fully autoclavable. A smaller access panel is also included on the side of the cage so entry is possible from three locations. 5” casters for ease of moving the unit. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations/responses received within fifteen (15) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
