No solicitation will be issued, and no quotations will be requested. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center, Office of Purchasing and Contracts, on behalf of the Critical Care Medicine Department (CCMD), intends to award a firm-fixed-price contract to Tecniplast, 1345 Enterprise Drive, West Chester, Pennsylvania 19380-5964, to provide large rodent-specific cage systems for ferret and mink studies in a BSL-4 environment. The CCMD has a requirement for six (6) ferret-specific cage systems. One of the CCMD investigators, collaborates with the Laboratory of Virology (LV) at the NIAID Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML), which has Animal Biosafety Level (ABSL)-4 access. The cages will support filovirus pathogenesis research and therapeutic intervention studies. RML currently uses Rocky Mountain Vet Branch (RMVB) cage systems for ferrets. Additional cages identical to existing units are required to accommodate an increased animal population in BSL-4. All new cages must match current specifications and be approved for BSL-4 use at RML. For purchases not exceeding the Simplified Acquisition Threshold (SAT), contracting officers may solicit from a single source if determined that only one source is reasonably available. Contracts awarded under FAR Part 13 are exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6 (Competition Requirements).
