NREL with grant funding from the Department of Energy (DOE) and in-kind contributions from industry partners, is developing the Solar Automated Permit Processing (SolarAPP™), a platform for use by local jurisdictions across the United States to issue automated, code-compliant rooftop residential solar permits instantly and online. NREL has committed to building and testing the SolarAPP platform through September 2021 at which time NREL will transition the product to a third-party partner organization. The Goals of SolarAPP are to: Provide a flexible, web-based PV-permitting tool for residential systems at no-cost to authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs). Enable standardization of instant permitting processes. Increase safety and code compliance of solar installations. Offer opportunities to incorporate energy storage and expand to other market segments. Reduce solar soft-costs and increase solar adoption. The goal of this notice is to give organizations interested in the long-term management of SolarAPP the information they need to outline their qualifications for the role.
