The Alliance for Sustainable Energy LLC, manages and operates the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). NREL is the nation’s primary laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. The Alliance provides the leadership and strategy through its management and operation. NREL’s mission is to advance the science and engineering of energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, and renewable power technologies. The Residential Building Integration (RBI) Program is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Building Technologies Office (BTO). Program goals are to research, develop and demonstrate market-relevant strategies that will enable affordability, comfort, carbon reduction, and energy savings in new and existing residential buildings. NREL provides technical support to the DOE RBI and residential related programs. For this effort, NREL responds to near-term needs of the industry by engaging Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide technical support to industry stakeholders to advance and implement energy-saving and emission-reducing building technologies and practices. This technical support includes targeted activities such as small-scale lab or field research, energy modeling, industry analysis, codes and standards support, stakeholder engagement, and content development.
