NREL will be posting a competitive solicitation for construction services for a Second Controllable Grid Interface (CGI) project at the NREL Flatirons Campus south of Boulder, CO. This project will construct civil and electrical infrastructure for medium voltage electrical equipment (purchased by NREL and installed by contractor) associated with a 19.9 MW CGI electrical grid research capability. The construction services needed are related to those required for an electrical substation and include sitework, concrete foundations, underground electrical vaults, conduit and wiring and equipment installation. The equipment to be installed includes an e-house, three transformers, electrical filters and switchgear. The Second CGI will be interconnected to the Flatirons Campus internal electrical buses utilizing existing and new switches to enable parallel operations with the existing CGI as well as independent operations of each CGI simultaneously with various combinations of connected research articles and equipment.
