The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is the steward of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, and the Flatirons Campus in Arvada, Colorado. Over its history, NREL conducted research that laid the technical foundation to enable a U.S. renewable industry to emerge and compete in global markets and it laid the technical foundation for cost-effective design and operation of highly efficient buildings, energy storage, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, bioenergy, transportation, wind, wave, and grid integration. NREL has played a significant role in advancing technologies from early-stage research through co-development and commercialization with industrial partners, enabling the creation of hundreds of thousands of U.S. jobs. NREL’s new Flatirons Campus Control Center Facility (CCF) will be focused on operational control and monitoring of IESS (Integrated Energy Systems at Scale) research projects utilizing research assets at the Flatirons Campus as well as at NREL’s ESIF (Energy Systems Integration Facility at the STM Campus) and at other national labs, universities, and other research institutions around the world. NREL offers an opportunity to the local construction community to construct the CCF to meet program objectives as outlined above. The CCF will be located at the NREL Flatirons Campus north of the main road and east of the 5 MW Dynamometer Facility. The CCF will be an 8,000-sf two-story building consisting of a control room, an electronics lab, a server room, collaboration rooms and support spaces. The project also includes site development including landscaping, parking areas, lighting, sidewalks, and drainage improvements. The project will be constructed in accordance with DOE’s Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings. NREL intends on issuing a Request for Proposal within the next 60-90 days of this notice and will request small business industry interests through the submission of a résumés and capability statements.
