The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is currently seeking proposals in support of the DuraMAT (Durable Module Materials) Consortium’s goal of accelerating a sustainable, just, and equitable transition to zero carbon electricity generation by 2035 through five core objectives: development of a central data resource for photovoltaic (PV) modules, multi-scale and multi-physics modeling, disruptive acceleration science, forensic tools for fielded modules, and materials solutions for more durable, reliable, and resilient modules. Projects supported by this Request for Proposal (RFP) will focus on answering the following two questions: (1) which materials and module designs will enable sustainable, high energy yield 50-year modules, and how do we ensure these new modules are not going to fail prematurely?; and (2) what triggers wear out, defined as a rapid increase in degradation at end of life, and what are the characteristics, rates, and mechanisms of long-term degradation in PV modules? Please see RFP number RFx-2024-10021 and its five (5) attachments below for more information. Amendment 1: 11/9/23 - Q&A. Amendment 2: 11/20/23 - Q&A. Amendment 3: 12/11/23 - The purpose of Amendment 03 is to provide PowerPoint versions of Attachments 3 (Quarterly Reporting Template) and 4 (Project Summary Slides). The due date for proposals remains 15 December 2023.
