Central Utility Building Addition and Renovation Construction, UIP Subproject 1-CUB
The project involves building an addition and renovating Fermilab’s Central Utility Building (CUB), which supplies chilled water, hot water, low-conductivity water, and makeup water to lab buildings and systems for comfort and process needs. The general contractor must furnish all supervision, labor, materials, tools, plant, appurtenances, transportation, overhead, bonding, safety oversight, quality control, and supervision to complete the work per drawings and specifications. The critical schedule constraint is Fermilab’s accelerator shutdown, anticipated to run from January 1, 2028, to January 1, 2030, and all on-site construction must start and finish within that window, though dates may change. Key milestones include Notice to Proceed through December 30, 2027 for submittals, RFIs, and shop drawing approvals; construction may begin January 3, 2028; CUB extension complete January 31, 2029; existing CUB upgrade complete June 29, 2029; and final CUB completion, including remedial work, by September 28, 2029. Performance is at Fermilab.
