The ESIF at NREL hosts Eagle, the primary high performance computing system for work supported by the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). NREL is preparing to replace Eagle with a system that will provide the performance and capacity required to meet the mission needs of EERE in the 2022-2026 time frame. The replacement system (ESIF-HPC-3) must be compatible with the ESIF data center, which balances energy efficiency equally with computational performance. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to gain further understanding of the currently available technologies in the marketplace. In terms of timing, NREL anticipates a phased delivery schedule coordinated with available power infrastructure upgrades, with substantial first phase system delivery of the ESIF-HPC-3 system in March 2022.
