Due date has been revised to July 3, 2023. This is a Request for Information to determine available sources for the following scope: CUPID (CUORE Upgrade with Particle Identification) is an international project in nuclear physics, seeking to discover a rare process of neutrinoless double beta decay of the Mo-100 nucleus. CUPID will deploy a large array of cryogenic calorimeter detectors in the form of lithium molybdate (Li2MoO4) crystals. CUPID is an international collaboration between the US, Italy, France, and other countries, and will operate in a Gran Sasso underground lab in Italy. Molybdenum is to be enriched to at least 90% by number density, with the preferred enrichment level of 95% or greater. The total mass of Mo-100 element in the detector is 280 kg. Berkeley Lab is interested in procuring 110 kg of the Mo-100 isotope, with the balance procured by our international partners. The preferred chemical form for delivery is molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) or lithium molybdate (Li2MoO4). We are particularly interested in the techniques that result in impurity concentrations below 10 part per billion, especially those of U-238, Th-232, and K-40. Berkeley Lab is seeking suppliers with these capabilities. Details of the requested response can be found in the attached RFI document.
