Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA) is the Management and Operating (M&O) Contractor for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Idaho National Laboratory (INL). INL’s primary point of business is Idaho Falls, Idaho. BEA brings into the city of Idaho Falls hundreds of visitors each year in need of short-term housing options including interns, academic and international researchers, Grad Fellows, Postdocs, etc. BEA’s visitors are often in search of furnished, short-term housing options that are ideally located within walking distance to basic amenities such as grocery stores. BEA currently has 5,400 employees and is expecting to fill over 2,400 new and vacated positions in the next five years. Often new hires are in need of short-term housing until they can obtain permeant housing. In a typical year, BEA provides 470 internship positions where the vast majority of those students stay in Idaho falls between May and August. BEA also hosts approximately twenty-five visiting/academic researchers for a period ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months, and 120 Grad Fellow/Post Docs with multi-year stays. BEA understands that other entities are also searching for short-term housing options such as university students, travelling nurses, construction trades, consultants, project hires, etc. BEA believes there are various short-term housing needs that could be solved if multiple parties join together and collaborate on solutions. BEA is seeking to know what entities are interested in collaborating to address the short-term housing need in the region. BEA is also seeking to understand the interest from developers, property owners/managers, and others, what potential options are available to address the housing need (either wholistically or incrementally). BEA is seeking input from all interested parties without restriction on type of solution. Interested parties should respond to this Expression of Interest by emailing housing@inl.gov.
