NNL is seeking information on development of domestic sintering (or equivalent) process capability for production of high energy density Neodymium-Iron-Boron permanent magnet material. Background: High energy density Neodymium-Iron-Boron permanent magnets are made from sintered material. The sintering process is controlled by patents which are owned by foreign entities. New defense regulations restrict the foreign sourcing of sintered material, which has significantly increased acquisition cost. The development of new, domestic capabilities for sintering or equivalent processes which do not involve foreign patents, is therefore of interest. New processes must produce material capable of equal or better energy density that present sintered materials.
