DOE’s Office of Environmental Management (EM) issued an Expression of Interest seeking input on potential collaboration to reuse surplus critical and rare earth minerals/materials from its inventory, with industry partners responsible for extraction or reprocessing, to strengthen and diversify the U.S. supply chain for domestic scientific, manufacturing, and energy needs. This is an EOI only, not a Notice of Funding Opportunity or application solicitation, and DOE will not provide funding or compensation; responses are nonbinding and will not be returned. A virtual Industry Day will be held on September 30, 2026, with questions and attendance information available by emailing Rob Seifert. DOE seeks details on respondents’ needs, technical capabilities, proposed material quantities and scalability, domestic applications/market demand, collaboration approaches, regulatory/logistical challenges, waste/byproduct management, and possible interest in leasing land or developing a processing facility. Proprietary business information should generally not be submitted, but if unavoidable, specific marked CUI//PROPIN and redacted UUI copies must be provided per DOE requirements.
