The University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is soliciting a proposal for fabrication of an acrylic vessel for the Eos project. The goal of the Eos project is to construct a few-ton scale detector to demonstrate the impact of novel technology on detection of MeV-scale particle interactions. This prototype has the potential to influence the design of future detectors for both fundamental physics and nonproliferation applications. The detector will consist of an acrylic vessel (which is the subject of this solicitation) to house a novel liquid scintillating medium, surrounded by a number of photomultiplier tubes. Optical clarity and mechanical integrity of the acrylic vessel are both critical for this application. This solicitation is governed by procurement policies and procedures established under the University’s Prime Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231 with the U.S. Government, represented by the Department of Energy, for management and operation of LBNL. Proposals submitted will be treated as offers and any resulting award(s) will be a Subcontract under the University’s Prime Contract.
