The University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is conducting market research to identify potential sources that can supply crystallography beamline pixel-array detectors. Synchrotron beamlines 8.2.1 and 8.2.2 at the Advanced Light Source are dedicated to macromolecular crystallography for the acquisition of diffraction data from crystals of biological materials. These beamlines are currently equipped with charge-coupled device x-ray detectors. Better technology to substantially improve the quality of diffraction data can now be obtained using pixel-array x-ray detectors.
