Expression of Interest for Discovery Park at BNL Industry Day Event Dept./Agency: U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Sources Sought: THIS IS NOT A NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR QUOTATION BUT INFORMATION AND PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY. This notice does not constitute a commitment by the Government. All information submitted in response to this announcement is voluntary and the Government will not pay for information requested nor will it compensate any respondent for any cost incurred in developing information provided to the Government. Development Opportunity, Informational Meeting, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Discovery Park, Ground Lease for Housing and Technology Facilities Description: An informational “Industry Day” meeting will be held at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to present the concept and solicit industry feedback for new facility development opportunities for the Discovery Park initiative. Discovery Park is a new vision for the gateway to BNL, the only multidisciplinary national laboratory in the Northeast. The concept is the creation of over 600,000 gross square feet of privately owned and operated facilities complementary to the DOE and BNL missions on approximately 40-60 acres of publicly accessible DOE land. Development may include: Extended stay housing available to visiting researchers and guests Public science education facilities Technology partnership facilities Food and other services Discovery Park is envisioned to be a flexible platform for developers, collaborators, and entrepreneurs. Leveraging the Lab's ongoing operations, it will offer developers an opportunity to propose and build privately owned and operated facilities that can be supported by demonstrating a purpose that is complementary to the DOE and BNL missions, is consistent with the intent of Discovery Park, and can demonstrate a solid business case of which self-sufficiency will be critical. The Industry Day event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 9:30 a.m. in person at the site of Discovery Park and online. Advance registration for the event is required by Sept. 2, 2020, for non-U.S. citizens and by Sept. 8, 2020, for U.S. citizens. In-person attendance will be limited to enable social distancing measures so early registration is recommended. Participants will receive a briefing on the vision and plans for Discovery Park and the proposed long-term ground lease methodology for enabling facility development. The key purpose of Industry Day is to share the Discovery Park vision and to seek feedback from developers, with a specific interest in understanding any challenges or specific needs of the developers to improve the success of this project. This is a test of the viability of such an endeavor and therefore feedback on how to improve the chances of success from the private developer community, during and after the Sept. 24 event, is essential.
