The Brookhaven National Laboratory, in conjunction with the Brookhaven Science Association LLC., is conducting market research to identify sources (Small Businesses and Other-than-Small Businesses) that have the knowledge, skills and capability to perform the work concerning the potential project described below. Project Description: Construction of an elevated 500,000 Gallon Water Tower, with the demolition of the existing water tower. This is a Fully-Designed Project. Statement of need: Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is a multi-program laboratory with recognized impact on national science needs. BNL provides scientific leadership in Nuclear Physics, Photon Sciences, Energy Science for Basic Energy Sciences, and data-driven discovery for Advanced Scientific Computing Research, with leading programs in selected areas of High Energy Physics, Biological and Environmental Research, Accelerator Science and Technology, and National Security and Nonproliferation. BNL utilizes world-class facilities and core expertise to: advance energy and environment-related basic research and apply them to 21st Century problems of critical importance to the Nation; and advance fundamental research in nuclear and particle physics to gain a deeper understanding of matter, energy, space, and time. Although there has been substantial investment in recent years to modernize and construct new research facilities at BNL, much of BNL’s utility infrastructure serving these facilities is over 50 years old and some is over 70 years old, dating to BNL’s origin as a U. S. Army camp during World Wars I and II. The utilities are aging and suffer from decreased reliability, lack of redundancy and limitations in capacity. Key portions of the water, steam and condensate, electrical, sanitary and chilled water utilities are beyond their useful life and substantial investment is needed to assure reliable service, meet capacity requirements and enable readiness of facilities critical to the research mission. The Critical Utilities Rehabilitation Project (CURP) was approved by Congress to update BNL’s aging infrastructure needs. One (1) of the projects identified as an urgent need for replacement is one (1) of the Water Towers on site. BNL currently maintains two (2) operable water towers on the site. A large 1M Gallon structure on the north east side of the site was constructed in the 1980’s, and a second structure is original to Camp Upton and was constructed in the 1940’s. This procurement will be to replace the 1940 vintage water tower adjacent to Police Headquarters with a modern 500,000 Gallon Water Tower. The existing water tower has been in service for many decades and outlived its lifetime use, increased maintenance cost and risk of a clean water source demand its replacement. The existing tower will be demolished at the completion of the new water tower as part of these works. Submission Details: All interested, capable, qualified (under NAICS code 237110) and responsive contractors are encouraged to reply to this market survey request. Interested PRIME CONTRACTORS ONLY should submit a narrative demonstrating their experience in construction projects of similar nature as described above. Narratives shall be no longer than 10 pages.
