LS-CAT 21-ID beamline requires high precision X-ray microdiffractometers for two of their end stations, 21-ID-F amd 21-ID-G.. These end stations are currently operating with Maatel MD2 microdiffractometers acquired in 2005. These MD2 microdiffractometers are end-of-life and do not have the accuracy to center micron sized crystals in the post APS-U X-ray beam. The vertical rotation axis of the MD3-UP is essential for reducing the sphear of confusion to an acceptable level.
