As part of the APS Upgrade project, new movable steel Shielding Blocks will be placed over the Injection Septum and the Swap-out Dump. A total of 21 steel Shield Blocks will be supported by and roll along overhead I-beams. The overhead I-beams will be supported by Plate Columns that are attached to the concrete walls of the storage ring tunnel. The Shield Blocks weigh between 3000 and 10,000 pounds. The structure that supports the Movable Shield Blocks must survive a design seismic event and provide adequate safety for personnel in the vicinity of the Movable Shield Blocks. APS-U has performed FEA stress and deflection analysis of components and system and found the design to be adequate for the application. APS-U will provide CAD drawings defining the details of the overhead I-beams and Plate Columns. CAD models (in STEP and Inventor format) can be provided if useful. Supplier will provide fabricated I-beams and Plate Columns, as itemized in the Deliverables section as described in the Statement of Work (SOW).
