In an effort to support value engineering cost saving efforts, ANL requests the Offeror provide: other material types for the vacuum chamber, such as aluminum, assuming a significant cost reduction can be realized. This would require that mating flanges be compatible with SS hardware, such as industry standard conflat flanges. This would also require the design to have equivalent structural strength to the proposed concept in the SOW and for the vacuum rating specified to be maintained. Please provide optional pricing for other vacuum chamber material types (price individually by material) to ensure ANL can determine the most cost effective and technically acceptable approach. The attached statement of work (SOW) specifies the design, manufacture, test, and delivery of a vacuum chamber (VC) for the Nanoprobe Instrument (NPI) of the enhanced 26-ID beamline of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) for the Advanced Photon Source Upgrade Project (APS-U). From hereafter the combination of the desired VC, the remaining desired VC features, and all hardware required to assemble the final designed vacuum chamber will be referred to as the vacuum chamber system (VCS).
