DIGITAL MICROSCOPE PRODUCT REQUIREMENT: This acquisition will provide the Life Sciences Equipment Laboratory (LSEL) within the Human Systems Division a digital microscope. The microscope will be used for both of the LSEL’s mission areas, which include Mishap Investigation and Special Projects. The LSEL’s reports are a critical exhibit delivered to United States Air Force (USAF) Safety Investigation Boards (SIBs) and are used to establish safety board products including factors, findings, and recommendations. The factual, non-privileged reports also are a key product for USAF Accident Investigation Boards (AIBs), which assign legal blame. Therefore, the tool needs to be of “forensic” quality, i.e., the products of the device must be of a high quality and credibility to withstand the scrutiny before a court of law.
