When is it more economical to rehabilitate or replace 50 year old fan systems to make the final system compatible with new VFD’s and/or new DDC? In more general, when is it more economical to replace HVAC components (motor starters, motorized dampers, duct sections, filtration systems, etc.) than to refurbish/repair? 2. What options are there to provide dehumidifying and general conditioning capacity to incoming air for a hydro-power plant (typical fresh air intake ranges from 22,500 cfm to 100,000 cfm per air intake with incoming air getting up to 105 degrees)? Note that most locations are limited in available space and load barring capacity. One of the facilities is estimated to need 460 cooling tons while a larger site might need 800 cooling tons. Some facilities may have access to cold (55 degree F) raw water via available 2” pipes fed from the reservoir while most don’t have access to cold water (temperatures get up to 80 degrees F at those facilities). 3. What options are there to improve air distribution on an un-ducted air inlet system where multiple fans draw their supply air from different locations in a common room and/or along an air passage spanning multiple elevations? 4. What options are there to provide local temperature control for rooms with sensitive equipment (such as batteries, battery chargers, spread rooms and control cable tunnels) with continuous exhaust from the space and no exterior access? 5. What options are there to provide cooling capacity for MV power cable tunnels that are ventilated either by a draw through exhaust or blow system? Note available space for external equipment is limited at all facilities. 6. Is there a way to utilize the exposed segments of the 20 foot diameter, 6.8 feet length, supply pipe (penstock) for the hydro turbine generators for cooling and dehumidifying of the power house where the water is typically 55 degrees F? Keep in mind anything on the penstock will have to be removable without powered lifting equipment, assembly and disassembly done by hand on ladders, and can be reassembled periodically with no loss in fluid. There are regular inspections of the penstock. 7. What options are there to retrofit air filter systems into existing fresh air intakes? Is it possible to modify existing duct segment? When is it more economical to outright replace a segment? 8. What is the best way to control a ventilation system to automatically adjust supply and exhaust rates to compensate for an unregulated air withdrawal system (up to 45,000 cfm at peak) associated with power generation inside of the facility? 9. What information would be helpful to reducing uncertainty when asked to rehabilitate existing equipment? 10. With respect to HVAC work at a Powerhouse. is it more economical to refurbish in sections/system/floor or entire building all at once? 11. What commercial options are available to move machinery up and down stairwells with multiple small landings?
