Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC) has a requirement to purchase TMJ prosthesis surgical supplies for a surgical procedure scheduled. This device is indicated for reconstruction of this patient’s temporomandibular joint due to a fusion of the bones resulting in stiffening and immobility, which has not been responsive to other treatments. The components of this implant are made with the same types of materials used other orthopedic surgeries, including knee, hip and other joint reconstructions. The condylar component has a metal condyle made from cobalt-chromium-molybdenum which is attached to a metal implant made from titanium alloy. This component is anchored to the lower jaw with titanium alloy screws. The fossa component is a durable medical-grade plastic surface made from ultra-high-molecular-weight which is attached to a metal backing made from pure titanium. This component is anchored to the skull with titanium alloy screws. These products are proprietary to this vendor and like products are not available through another vendor. See the full solicitation and Justification and Approval documents attached.
