The United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) builds partner capacity to execute United Nations (UN) peace operations (PO) missions world-wide to include support to Peace Operations Training Centers (POTCs) and deployment sustainment activities. This project developed by the US Military Assistance and Advisory Group - Peru is a donation to the Armed Forces of Peru under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended, and the Arms Export Control Act. Peru is a Partner Nation (PN) in USSOUTHCOM’s Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI), a Department of State program that addresses major gaps in international peace operations conducted by the United Nations (UN). The program aims to build and maintain standardized capability and capacity for PNs to effectively and efficiently execute UN peace operations. Peru deploys 250 peacekeepers worldwide at any time, primarily to the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) where the Engineering Company is building and maintaining roads, greatly improving critical mobility challenges. In addition, Peru is currently in negotiations with the UN for the additional deployment of a 450 Soldier Infantry Battalion, which this equipment will go to support. The Armed Forces of Peru have requested support from the United States Government (USG) to obtain one (1) forklift; two (2) cargo crane trucks; and two (2) refrigeration box trucks. These vehicles will allow the Armed Forces of Peru to support a deployed Battalion of Peacekeeping Soldiers conducting UN Peace Keeping Operations.
