This is a Request for Information (RFI) seeking white papers on industry capabilities to design and potentially deliver a Lightweight Small Arms Protective Insert (LSAPI) for Vital Torso Protection ballistic armor. The Government is specifically interested in two design solutions: a high-performance design and a cost-efficient design, both of which must be a ceramic-based, Shooter’s Cut insert in eight standard sizes, with an areal density of =4 pounds per square foot and a thickness of =1 inch. White paper submissions are voluntary, will not be compensated, and are due 45 days from the notice posting, to be sent via email to the specified contacts. The RFI is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a commitment to issue a future solicitation. Interested parties with an active facility clearance may request the detailed technical ballistic requirements through the contracting office.
