Work consists of excavation of two new river bend channels on the Cuyahoga River within the boundaries of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Summit County, Ohio. Each new river bend channel is approximately 1600 feet long. Existing soil material excavated from the new river bend channels will be used to fill a portion of the Cuyahoga River channel to force river flows down the newly excavated channels. Some of the excavated materials will be disposed off site. Work is scheduled to occur over three years with the majority of the channel excavation to occur in the first year and the remaining channel excavation and filling of the existing Cuyahoga River channel to occur in the third year. Vegetation plantings will occur in the first and third years. Work involves the removal of numerous trees and the reuse of some of the removed trees as rootwads in the new channel along with the placement of riprap. Work involves the excavation of shoals within the Cuyahoga River and the reuse of some of the shoal material as stone fill.
