Work will include the construction of an island above lock and dam 2, near Hastings, Minnesota in Dakota and Washington counties. The island will be built with dredged material from pool 2 of the Mississippi river. A mudflat will be built from adjacent dredging and provide fish overwintering habitat. Riprap will protect exposed shoreline. The completed project will shield the exposed LD2 embankment and result in wetland and floodplain habitat.
