Contractor will construct an island with granular fill from the channel maintenance dredging stockpile at Reads Landing and fine fill from access dredging and habitat dredging as needed. This island will increase the floodplain forest and fish overwintering areas. The Contractor will place riprap along the shore to protect the island. This rock will be obtained from Government approved, off-site sources. The Contractor will also locate, harvest, and plant willow cuttings; and establish turf as specified. This project is upstream of Lake Pepin, in Upper Pool 4 of the Mississippi River near Bay City, WI.

This will resul... The work includes: construction of an island upstream of Lake Pepin, in Upper Pool 4 of the Mississippi River. It is part of the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program (NESP). This will result in increased floodplain forest and fish overwintering areas. Construction is with granular fill from the channel maintenance dredging stockpile at Reads Landing; and the fine fill from access dredging, and habitat dredging as needed. Riprap will be placed along the shore to protect certain constructed features; this rock is obtained from off-site sources. Grass and willows will also be planted.
