General: The contractor shall supply and provide all equipment, labor, supervision, and materials necessary to remove the existing boat launch ramp and wooden dock and install a new boat launch ramp a... General: The contractor shall supply and provide all equipment, labor, supervision, and materials necessary to remove the existing boat launch ramp and wooden dock and install a new boat launch ramp and dock in the same location at the Clamshell Lake Public Access. The new dock shall be a 32-foot-long by 5-foot-wide aluminum roll-in dock located in the same location as the existing dock. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Clamshell Lake Public Access is located near Pequot Lakes, MN. It is 25 miles north of Brainerd, MN, off Crow Wing County Road 16 on Ruttger Road. All work shall conform to local, county, and State laws and codes. A site visit is recommended prior to submitting a quote. Permits: The Contractor shall be responsible for meeting any permit requirements and making sure all permits have been acquired before initiating the work. Remove Concrete Ramp and Ramp Planks: The contractor shall supply all equipment, labor, and materials necessary to remove and dispose of the approximately 16-foot by 62-foot concrete ramp. The contractor shall saw cut a straight line at the junction of the asphalt and concrete ramp so there is a smooth transition between the new poured in place ramp and the asphalt parking lot. All underwater ramp planks shall be removed and disposed of. There are approximately 14 one-foot by 6-inch ramp planks under the water. These planks extend out in the water approximately 28 feet. The water depth is approximately 6 feet deep at the end planks. Ramp Plank Bedding Material: The contractor shall remove the necessary materials including all silt, rock or materials that can’t be used for supporting the new concrete ramp planks to include reshaping mounding and filling scour holes to allow for the placement of a layer of type V Geo Textile under a 12-inch-thick layer of compacted 2-to-2.5-inch crushed quarry rock. All materials removed from the old ramp shall be disposed of in an off-site location in accordance with all local, County and State of Minnesota disposal codes. Ramp Slope: The slope of the cast-in-place concrete ramp and precast ramp planks shall remain the same slope as the existing ramp. Ramp Planks: The precast ramp planks shall be 8 inches thick by 4 feet wide by 16 feet long with a one-inch-deep V groove (30 degree) finish. The planks shall have lifting hooks with two layers of epoxy coated # 4 rebar reinforcement one foot on center in each plank. The concrete compressive strength shall be a minimum 5,000 psi. The planks shall have a tongue and groove connection joint or recessed connection loops to keep the ramp planks fitting snug together. There shall not be any gaps between the individual planks and all the planks shall be fastened together so that they are one unit and can’t separate once installed. The last ramp plank shall be fastened to the cast-in-place concrete apron according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. The new planks shall extend approximately 30 feet into the water, approximately 2 feet past the end of the existing ramp planks. Ramp and Plank Rock Border: The Contractor shall place and compact a 1-foot border of Class II Crushed Granite Aggregate with fines on each side of the ramp from the top edge all the way to the last plank exposed above the waterline. An 8-foot border by 2-foot-thick blanket of Class III Granite rip rap shall extend out beyond the last plank the full width to protect the last plank from being undermined by boats power loading. Cast-In-Place Ramp Subgrade and Subbase: The contractor shall place the concrete over a thoroughly compacted subgrade, layer of geotextile fabric, 6-inch-thick layer of compacted aggregate (2.5” minus) subbase and a 6-inch layer of compacted aggregate (.75” minus) base course. Cast-In-Place Ramp: The contractor shall pour approximately a 16-foot wide by 66-foot long by 8-inch-thick, cast-in-place concrete ramp. The concrete ramp shall have a 24-inch-deep cut-off wall on both sides and at the bottom edge to keep the concrete ramp from being undermined by water and to strengthen the edges. The top of the ramp shall extend 4 feet further away from the lake and existing ramp. The ramp shall have epoxy coated number 4 rebar, twelve inches on center in both directions for reinforcement, with a one-inch-deep V groove (30 degree) finish. The bottom edge shall be designed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations for attaching the pre-cast planks. Wooden Roll-in Dock Removal and Replacement with Aluminum Roll-in Dock: The contractor shall provide and install a new aluminum roll-in dock that is 5-foot-wide by 32-foot-long, replacing the current wooden roll-in dock. The new dock shall have a heavy-duty aluminum frame, non-skid re-enforced vinyl or aluminum decking, 8 boat tie-up cleats, PVC corners and edge bumpers. “Heavy duty aluminum frame” is defined by having a minimum requirement of a 1” square aluminum tubing that is ¼” thick for the frame of the dock with 3/8” square aluminum tubing diagonally supporting the upper and lower frame throughout the dock sections and the legs shall be minimum 2” square aluminum. The shore end of the dock shall have a new 5’ wide by 8’ long shore-end aluminum non-skid ramp. The Contractor shall be responsible for removal of the existing approximate 5’ wide x 28’ long wooden roll-in dock with access ramp. It shall be placed on a paved surface at the Clamshell Public access in a location determined by the COR. The dock will remain the property of the Corps of Engineers.
