The laboratory shall be USACE validated or state certified for the tests that are required. All testing must be performed at the USACE validated or state certified laboratory and be completed within 30 days of the receipt of the samples. The laboratory shall store the samples for 90 days after the submission of an invoice for the completed tests. After 90 days, the laboratory shall dispose of the samples. The US Army Corps of Engineers and partners have collected soil samples associated with a forest gap study, funded through the Corps’ Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program. Soils were collected during the summer of 2019 in and around forested gaps within the Mississippi River and lower Illinois River floodplains. Soils were collected by three different crews on terrestrial sites between Onalaska, WI and Alton, IL. The upper 30 cm of soil was collected a each sampling location using soil probes of ¾” to 1” in diameter and up to 18 inches in length. All samples from within a gap were aggregated into a single sample for the gap and all samples from within the adjacent forested matrix were aggregated into a single sample for the adjacent gap matrix. Samples were air dried then stored in either standard soil sample boxes or Ziploc bags. Samples vary somewhat in size, but samples generally range from 1 to 2 cups of soil. 134 total samples were collected. The Contractor shall perform the laboratory soil tests shown in the table in the Scope of Work. The table lists the type of tests and the quantity required for each test.
