Maintenance Dredging of Fire Island Inlet and Shores Westerly to Jones Inlet, New York Beach Erosion Control and Navigation Project
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, proposes maintenance dredging of the Fire Island Inlet Federal Navigation Channel and deposition basin, placing approximately 3,000,000 cubic yards of sand as beach nourishment at Gilgo Beach. The work is anticipated to occur in the fall/winter of 2026/2027, with an estimated cost between $25,000,000 and $100,000,000, and the performance location is Fire Island Inlet and shores westerly to Jones Inlet, New York. The contractor must commence work within five calendar days of notice to proceed and maintain a minimum production rate of 13,500 cubic yards per calendar day. The purpose is to maintain safe navigation and use the dredged material for erosion control and hurricane protection along the specified beaches.
