Automated vibrating wire piezometers were installed underneath the spillway slab at Gavins Point Dam in 2013 to evaluate foundation pressures. The saw cuts at the surface of the spillway slab. Due to deteriorating epoxy sealant in the saw cuts and a concrete spall in the spillway slab at a saw cut, four of the fiber optic cables were exposed to spillway flow and severed. This contract is to repair the four damaged fiber optic cables by fusion splicing new fiber optic cable from the piezometer bore holes in the spillway slab to junction boxes above the spillway. The epoxy sealant and the spall in the spillway slab will be repaired to protect the fiber optic cables.
