Agnostic Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing (mNGS) for Clinical Diagnostics
The U.S. Army is seeking mature, portable, integrated metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) systems for rapid, hypothesis-free identification of infectious disease agents in field-forward and austere settings. The ideal system is a backpack-sized, battery-operable platform with a fully automated "sample-to-answer" workflow, targeting a time-to-answer of under 6 hours. Preference is for systems at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 or higher, with a viable regulatory strategy for FDA authorization and scalable manufacturing. Performance of services would support deployment at Role 3 field hospitals or forward-laboratory environments. This is a Request for Information (RFI) only, not a solicitation, and no budget amounts or submission timelines are specified.
