SYNOPSIS: This Sources Sought Announcement is to assist the CCDC-Soldier Center to identify potential sources to provide a continuous wave mode carbon dioxide (CO2) laser that is air/fan cooled, tunable around 10 micrometers wavelength, produces 1.5 W or higher output power, low divergence, low beam quality mode and have stable output power with a wide temperature range of operation. The Government requests that responses be submitted electronically to mary.k.prebensen.civ@mail.mil and yassine.aitelaoud.ctr@mail.mil by 10 Apr 19 date by 5pm EST. Background: The Government (CCDC-Soldier Center) requires an advanced carbon dioxide laser to support ongoing internal research initiatives. This highly technical laser must satisfy certain specifications. Description: The following specifications are required. i. Operating Mode : The carbon dioxide laser must be operated in continuous wave mode ii. Laser Power: The carbon dioxide laser output power at the strongest line must be at least 1.5 Watt. iii. Laser Tunability : The carbon dioxide laser must have a tuning wavelength range around 9.5 micrometer to 10.7 micrometer iv. Beam Divergence : The beam divergence (full angle) of the carbon dioxide laser must be 6 milliradian or less, desirable to 1.5 milliradian or less with a beam expander v. Cooling Method : Cooling method of the carbon dioxide laser must be via air/fan and not more cumbersome water cooling unless one of the technical characteristics is greatly improved vi. Operating Temperature : The working temperature of the carbon dioxide laser must be between 5 deg. Celsius and 40 deg Celsius vii. Power Stability : The laser power stability of the carbon dioxide laser must be +/-5% or less viii. Mode Quality: The beam quality mode (M2) of the carbon dioxide laser must be less than 1.2 ix. Power Supply: The Carbone dioxide laser's power supply must be US compatible Deliverables: The contractor shall deliver and ship one (1) cw tunable carbon dioxide laser and one (1) DC power supply (28 V, 240 Watt). Delivery Date: The estimated delivery date will be specified by the vendor upon receipt of order. Government Furnished Property (Equipment/Materials/Information/Computer Utilization): N/A Interested parties are invited to submit a response to this Sources Sought Announcement. THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY This Sources Sought Announcement is issued solely for information and planning purposes and to identify interested sources. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. No contract will be awarded from this announcement. This Sources Sought does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue an RFP in the future. It is subject to change and is not binding on the Government. Further, unsolicited proposals will not be accepted. Funding is not available at this time. The United States Army has not made a commitment to procure any of the items/services discussed, and release of this Sources Sought Announcement should not be construed as such a commitment or as authorization to incur cost for which reimbursement would be required or sought. Response to this Sources Sought Announcement is voluntary and no reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this and any follow-on information requests. All submissions become Government property and will not be returned. Not responding to this Sources Sought Announcement does not preclude participation in any future RFP if any is issued.
