Statement of Work (SOW) for Heavy Equipment Large Low Velocity Airdrop System (HELLVADS) Ropes for Extraction and Suspension Background: US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center (CCDC SC), Natick, MA, is executing a science & technology effort to increase the maximum weight capability for Army airdrop from 42,000 lbs to up to and over 60,000 lbs. This effort, named HELLVADS, requires high strength connections in two main areas: (1) between the airdrop platform and the parachutes used to extract the payload from the aircraft, and (2) between the platform (or airdrop item) and the confluence point that connects to the main recovery parachutes. To address these needs, CCDC SC seeks a supplier for a rope, delivered in various lengths, which can meet the technical requirements identified below. Deliverables Performance Testing. The contractor shall conduct cycled and uncycled break strength testing of a sample rope. The testing shall measure also elongation throughout the break strength testing. Testing shall be conducted in accordance with CI-1500B. Testing does not include the cost of the test sample. The cost shall be priced per each test. The deliverable shall be a test report for each test. Test Sample Fabrication. The contractor shall fabricate and deliver ropes meeting the technical requirements in Table I at a length of 20 feet from eye to eye. Ropes specifications shall be in accordance with definitions in CI-1500A and CI-1500B. The cost shall be priced per each rope. Shipping. All shipping and handling to a location within the continental United States shall be included in the cost. Table I. Technical Requirements Characteristic Requirement Strength Minimum breaking strength of 185,000 lbs for a spliced rope Elongation 20% – 32% elongation at minimum breaking strength Circumference No greater than 7.5 inches Weight No greater than 180 lbs per 100 ft Splicing 16 inch eye splices on each end of the rope Length As specified, able to be produced between 20 to 140 feet, inclusive, from eyelet to eyelet.
