Physical Characteristics Work Area – General Requirements Distance Between Centers – Range of 15” to 25” Height of Centers – Range of 4” to 6” Swing Over Bed – Range of 8” to 12” Travel of Cross-Slide – 4” to 8” Travel of Top-Slide - .1” to 1” Top-Slide Rotation - 360°. Headstock Spindle Through Hole – Range of 1” to 2.5” Rotational Accuracy – No greater than 0.0005” (or angular equivalent) Unsupported Cylindrical Turning @ 100mm – No greater than 0.0005” Motor/Power Requirements Voltage – 110V, 50/60Hz is preferred. 208-230V, 50/60Hz can be considered as long as machine can run through a transformer to 110V. Power Consumption – Minimum 1HP, Maximum 3.5HP (Machines in this power range should fall in our physical footprint requirements, higher HP machines will be too large for our lab space.) Spindle Speed Operating Range – Anywhere between 25 and 60,000 rpm. Speeds must be infinitely variable within this range. Feed Requirements Automatic Feed Rate – Between 0.0020 and 0.0075 inches/revolution. X and Z Axis Path Feed Rate – Between 0.01” and 100 inches per minute. Ball Screw Precision Accuracy - +/- 0.0010” or better. Manual Thread-Cutting Range – Between 7 and 44 TPI (threads per inch).
