The purpose is to provide Portable Bullet Traps based on description below. 1. Purpose of traps: IAW AMMUNITION INFORMATION NOTICE (AIN) 027-17, RETRANSMITTAL OF URGENT ALARACT 003/2017-NOTIFICATION OF AUTHORIZED SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION FOR TRAINING ON INDOOR/OUTDOOR BAFFLE RANGES AND IN LIVE-FIRE SHOOT HOUSES, Bullet Traps are mandatory when firing M855A1 in Live Fire Shoot House with minimum 16 inch sand filled walls. 2. Safety Standard: The Bullet Trap is a portable live-fire system used to prevent ammunition escapement while training with live ammunition to engage targets, in the US Army Live Fire Shoot House (LFSH). The rugged bullet trap must incorporates an integral self-adjusting energy dissipating ballistic strike plate, to enable extended heavy-duty use. Impacting rounds will pass through a composite face for full capture and containment of projectile and fragments. Expended rounds must be collected in a capture compartment with slide-out access for easy and safe disposal. The Bullet Trap is mandatory safety standard item to prevent ricochet round from any incidents for firing soldiers and/or observers on cat walks. 3. Test report: The bullet traps are required to have been tested and able to contain the new Army round DODIC AB57 M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR). 4. Type of Bullet: The M855A1 EPR Ball AB57. The M855A1 is an exceptionally lethal sub 2 MOA (less than 2" spread between rounds at 100 yards) round. The M855A1 is similar in weight to M855 "green tip" (62 grains) and is a ballistic near match with M855 allowing the continued use of existing tracer. The tip of M855A1 is where the expansive changes become apparent. The M855A1's bronze-colored tip is the anti-corrosive coating on its hardened steel penetrator. The steel tip is bonded to a copper slug following the tip. The steel tip provides increased penetration capabilities against hard materials and does not deform when hitting glass enabling penetration. Propellant is temperature stabilized and has additives minimizing muzzle flash and copper fouling in the barrel. The propellant creates a 13% increase in chamber pressure. The M855A1 has better penetration across all materials including steel, better than the M80 7.62 ball ammunition which spurned the development of a sister round in 7.62mm. The M855A1 is also barrier blind meaning it continues in its ballistic trajectory after hitting a mild barrier like glass or car doors while still being lethal to the target behind the barrier. Most importantly, the M855A1 does not produce "through and through" effects on targets. (Please see the picture on next page). 5. Dimension (+/- 10%): Wheeled base portable trap fully assembled, 10"X30"X54"H, Capture Zone: 26"w X 42"h included strike panel (3/8 inch and ½ inch AR500 steel covered with minimum 2 inch composite material)
